Evil in Paganism

In this episode I will talk about evil in paganism, the outcome of one of my Tarot readings, and I’m going to give you a prompt, something you can do easily and in a short amount of time, to get some magic into your day.

Evil in Paganism

We all know that Judeo-Christian religions have an evil entity to counteract the good, but the religions within Paganism don’t (in my opinion) have that. The same goes for a number of other religions and paths, like for example Buddhism.

The definition of what is evil varies from culture to culture. What some may consider evil, may be perfectly acceptable to others. Examples could be genocide or cannibalism. Some consider pride, gluttony, mischief and immoral acts to be evil while others only include things on the level of incest, infanticide, murder, and rape.

Evil is by most considered to be acts taken with the intention to harm (physical or emotional) or destroy. Those who believe in an evil entity, tend to blame such acts on this entity. To say that they were directly caused by this entity, or that the person was under the influence of this entity. I believe that blaming such acts on an evil entity, is to get off too easy. As humans, we usually have a choice in what we do.

Do you believe in evil? And by that I mean a force or entity causing evil acts. Personally, I don’t. I believe in the evil of mankind. That humans make the choice to do things to others (humans and animals) which we consider evil.

A tarot reading

This Tarot reading was done for a woman who’s growing her business. She wanted to know if it will be successful this year. Now getting that kind of information from the cards can be tricky, especially since it depends on your own definition of success. It may be different from the definition the ‘Universe’ has. This is the answer I got from the cards:

You have a need for new things, for positive energy, but you have to provide the completion. You tend to get distracted, so you have to try to be more focused. You need to make a final effort to reach the goal. New beginnings are on their way with a deeper meaning, but in some way you’re resisting to do what’s necessary. Take action on what you learn.

There’s a need for gentleness, softness, kindness, both for yourself and others. Don’t take it hard if you don’t have enough energy, nobody’s strong all the time. Take care of yourself, or you may not have enough energy for this and don’t lose patience with yourself or what you do. You’re stronger than you think. Do what it takes to find the balance between work and life.

You’ve had your challenges and have had to stand up for your choices. Right now you have to choose your conflicts. You’re breaking new ground right now, but better times will come. Something’s preventing you from saying or doing what you should. Don’t be afraid to to explain your position. Stand your ground and make your voice heard. Be independent and think for yourself. Overcome the fear and do it anyway. Don’t let your worries take over. One of those worries is that you may have to try several different things before you find what is right for you. Look within to find your passions.

Some things that were started long ago are beginning to bear fruit. You’ll be experiencing major success after some difficulties as good choices bring rewards. The result will be positive and you will have a feeling of freedom and self-expression.

What speaks in your favor is your strength and insight. Make a real effort to remember what’s positive. It’s a good time to be social, and you need to listen to that inner child of yours a bit more often. Give yourself some credit. You have the right to feel strong and proud and your efforts are being seen, appreciated and respected.
