I’ve met and heard of a lot of Pagans and Heathens, who don’t wear their belief specific jewellery in public, despite being out of the proverbial ‘closet’. I’ve also heard of those who flaunt their beliefs on the bus (or wherever). I can’t say I belong to either of those groups.
I do wear that kind of jewellery quite often. In fact, it’s almost the only jewellery I use. But I don’t use them to flaunt my beliefs. I just use them. As any Christian might wear a cross, just to wear it, I normally wear a Freyja symbol or my Thor’s Hammer. On rare occasions, I choose to wear my Troll Cross. What I wear depends on what I feel I need. Some days I wear no jewellery at all.
Other people might, for example, wear spirals, goddesses, triple moons, pentagrams or pentacles. The piece of jewellery might be a tiny earring or a huge pentagram. Of course, this is up to the individual, but I do prefer those who feel no need to flaunt it, without being afraid to wear it, if and when they feel like it.
Do you wear belief symbols in public? If so which one(s)? Fill out the form below and leave me a comment.

I wrote today’s post on Jewelry, too 🙂 Usually, I wear my hammer on most days, but I’ve also got other (non-religious) pieces that I like to wear on a regular basis. As you said, it’s about what I feel I need and want to wear on a given day. Also, it depends on who I’ll be meeting – I wouldn’t want to wear my hammer for a job interview (in Germany, people might get different ideas than “Heathenry”) or to dinner with my grandma if I don’t feel ready discussing my beliefs on said day.
I would, and I have worn them to job interviews. I’m totally open about my traditition everywhere. Not that I shove it down their throats, but I choose not to hide it. I’ve never had any problems in doing so. No adverse reactions at all. The only person who never new, was the only devout Christian in my family, my paternal grandmother. I chose not to hurt her feelings.
I do wear significant jewelry, but not like a pentacle or anything really obvious. Although I know wearing such jewelry might put my job prospects or something at risk that’s now why I don’t – generally that kind of thing just isn’t my style. Most “pagan” jewelry I have found looks kind of gothic in style and that’s really not my style anymore. The charged jewelry I do wear is mostly rings with stones that I find powerful, pendants with stones, or occasionally an animal to symbolize something. In college I used to wear a faery pendant and a faerie star but both have been lost and probably broken.
I’m glad employers aren’t allowed to discard you for your spirituality here. The stuff I have isn’t gothic, because it isn’t my style either. My daughter got a beautiful fairy necklace from my mother. It’s a small fairy holding a ball of amber.
I wrote about jewelry last week. 🙂
I’m not comfortable either sporting a pentacle 24/7, so I only wear one to circle or Pagan events. The necklace I wear almost every day is a simple silver chain with 4 symbols on it that are significant to me: an ankh, a smiling crescent moon, a flower with a rose quartz in it, and a number 9.
The ankh is because studying Egyptian mythology is what brought me to Paganism. The moon is for the Goddess, but also because it’s the logo for Llewellyn, who I’ve written some stuff for. 🙂 The flower with the rose quartz is to remind me to love and care for myself, and 9 is my birth number according to numerology.
This necklace has become almost like a security blanket to me. I don’t feel quite myself when I’ve had it off for more than a day or two. And, I can wear it wherever I want and no one really takes any notice of it, which I like.
Many people feel ‘naked’ without their necklace. I went without any jewelry at all for so many years, that I haven’t gotten there quite yet.
I wear my Mjolnir. Not everyday but as often as possible. I love it! I feel more powerful and more connected with Thor when I wear it.
I do feel stronger with mine on, I sit up straighter etc. 🙂
I’ve only got 3 pieces of jewelry that I wear consistently: a nose-ring (just a tiny stud, sometimes colored, usually clear/white), my engagement ring, and a pentacle necklace. The pentacle, obviously, is the only religiously significant piece and it is unique in that I have never met anyone else with the same one. The pendant is a silver square with the circle and star cut out from the center. I get many comments and compliments on it, though when coming from people I don’t know, or don’t know well, they tend to assume it is a Star of David, for some reason 🙂 I’ve never felt the need to remove it for company or work, and thankfully, have never been hassled for it. Like you, I don’t wear it to make a statement, I wear it for me. It’s just part of who I am.
I’m sure they’re beautiful 🙂 The pictures in the post are mine. I also have an astrology pendant, a crystal pendant and a pentacle. I don’t wear those as often, as I don’t connect with them in the same manner.
I wear my pentagram just about everyday, occasionally replacing or augmenting it with other pieces, religious or not. Whether it’s inside my clothing or out usually depends on the neckline and where the chain hits it.
That’s usually the only time my jewelry is hidden as well.
I have a Mjolnir necklace that’s what I wear the most and lately I’ve been wearing an Algiz rune carved into fire agate alot, helps me feel stronger. I have alot of stuff that I have made too 🙂
Algiz is a good rune for protection 🙂
