Today’s rune from the Elder Futhark is Maðr or Mannaz (sound value: M). Maðr was the word for man, mankind. This rune represents mankind, the individual,human nature, the self (all of it – soul, mind, ego, spirit, body etc.), society, social order. You need to find yourself, be comfortable with who you are, balance body, mind, and spirit.
When it represents society, it’s about your place in society, and those you deal with directly (friends, family, associates etc.). It may be about fitting in or trying too hard to do so. Not being yourself because of for example peer pressure, a need to change environment because of ‘bad company’ or something else.
