I’ve decided to combine my love of books with my love of crafts, and specifically old techniques. Last week, I started making bookmarks using tablet weaving. On Sunday, I had the first three finished, and I want to show them to you.

Tablet weaving is an old weaving technique where you use a number of cards with holes in them. To put it simply, the pattern is created by how you thread and turn them. There are more options for variation as well. The way I made these, made the pattern different on the front and the back, which I feel adds more interest.

The only difference between these three ribbons is the number of turns. They all have the same threading, colours, and the same number of cards. One was made using four forwards and then four backwards, the second is an 8+8, and the third is a 5+5.

I’ve added these bookmarks to my webshop if you want one. I plan on making more, both in this technique and using other materials.

If you liked this, please share it on social media.

These are beautiful, Linda! I love how the difference in numbers changes the patterns. <3
