A pendulum is a good tool for use in divination and for getting general advice and answers. As any other tool used for divination, the pendulum acts as an extension of your subconscious mind. A pendulum isn’t that expensive if you decide to buy one. You can actually make one yourself quite easily. The most important thing is that the string is properly attached so that the pendulum won’t move in a certain direction because of the construction.

It isn’t difficult to learn how to use a pendulum either. Hold the string between your thumb and your index finger and make sure to support the elbow, for example on a table. Let the pendulum hang freely below the hand. Stabilize it, so that it stops swinging. Make sure that it stays still. Now you can start to tune into it, by testing it a bit. Visualize that it will give you a ‘yes’, a ‘no’ and a ‘don’t know/maybe’. Make sure to start by asking questions you already know the answer to, to figure out how to recognize the answers for what they are. If it starts moving a third way, it can, for example, mean that the question isn’t yet ready to be answered. You’ll soon figure out how it works for you.

To see the movement more easily, you can hold the pendulum over a paper that you’ve drawn a circle on. You can also draw a cross over the circle. Let the center of the cross be in the center of the circle. When you feel that the connection between you and pendulum works, you can start asking your questions. Remember never to ask questions that you don’t want to be answered! The pendulum may very well be wrong, but still. Ask straightforward and simple questions that the pendulum can answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to.

Can it show the way?

One way you can use a pendulum is over a drawing of your house if you’ve misplaced something. You could slowly exclude the areas where there’s no point in looking for it. The pendulum might actually lead you directly to the object you’re seeking. The same method can be used over a map to locate a site or an object. As for showing the way in a more metaphorical meaning, it can help you choose between two options or actions.

Would you try a pendulum?

“the pendulum acts as an extension of your subconscious mind” this is what “shocks” me more, never used one and never thought it could be an extension of my subconscious. I would like to try, I wonder if it takes long to “learn” to use it. Is there a moment of the day when the connection works better? Thanks Linda, really like this post!

It takes about 5 minutes 🙂 I’d say it’s more about how you feel, than time of day. Do it when you’re calm and rested.

I do use a pendulum – usually just one of my rings on a string. Most often, I use it for decisions, “yes” or “no” situations, or several options I write in a circle on a piece of paper. It shows me what I really want deep down inside 🙂

When I was pregnant with my second child, my best friend did the pendulum to ask if I was having a girl or boy… Indeed, answered a boy.

🙂 We tried getting them to tell us at the ultrasound, and it wasn’t possible to see. She had her bum upwards, and her back outwards. That time, I didn’t think of the pendulum…

This is really interesting! I never used a pendulum, but I wouldn’t mind making one if I had instructions. 🙂

Do you make then to sell, Linda?

I haven’t sold any pendulums, but I’ve made a few. The absolutely easiest way, is to hang a ring on a chain 🙂

Never thought of using one for this purpose, Linda! If I recall, we used to “play” as children with pendulums made out of keys on a string.
Really interesting concept, I think I’ll give it a try 🙂

A key makes a pretty good pendulum 🙂 Let me know how it goes
