Your intuition doesn’t physically grab you by the hand and say “this way”. It has more subtle ways of communicating with you. These are not all, but some of the ways you get nudged by it.

Irrationality

For example when you dislike someone for no reason at all, maybe someone you’ve just met. You just know that there’s something wrong with that person.

Temperature

When something sends a shiver up your spine, that’s a sign. The same is if you get a hot flash (without being in menopause).

Muscle control

When you find that it’s hard to take the next step, whether it’s through a door or off a cliff, that’s your intuition saying you shouldn’t.

Impulse

When you pick one object instead of another, or order a trip without thinking it over first, or blurt something out that you wish you hadn’t. There is a reason you chose the way you did.

Energy

This is harder to explain, but I bet you’ve felt it. Sometimes what you’re doing just lifts you up in an amazing way, or sends you to the bottom of the pit. I hope these helps you recognize it the next time your intuition speaks to you.

Do you have a story about feeling you intuition? I’d love to read about it in the comments.

I meet new people almost every day and yes, intuition plays a role… I can’t explain it, but I do feel when there’s something “wrong” about a person (it could be the way he/she says something, the way they smile at me, the strange sensation in my guts)…I must say I hardly make a mistake… Very useful post Linda, thanks

Thanks for this post Linda. I am thinking a lot about intuition and also gut feeling in business. There was times then I thought I had to have hard facts to prove things – I still believe that but nowadays I think both intuition and gut feeling is important and that it is all the things I previously learned about something that gives me the feeling and that it is something to count on. But now and then I have to check with hard facts that my gut feeling and intuition doesn’t fool me.

I think it’s something we grow into. I do rely on facts for some things 🙂

For me its when I just “know” something without being able to explain how I know

I rely heavily on my intuition (maybe too much!) For the most part, its led my to the correct decisions.

Intuition is our “sixth” sense. it is said. Knowing those moments to recognize it, is essential for good decisions. Sometimes is just that “gut” feeling that tells us “use caution.” Your five descriptions are very helpful to understand how intuition works. Good job!

Great tips, Linda! As a very logical person, I tend to ignore some of these signs, just out of habit, I believe. What are some tips to actually “listen” to your intuition more?
Perhaps subject for your next blog post? 😉

Start small. Maybe when buying dinner, listen to what your intuition tells you to get. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂 I’ll add it to my schedule

Great article! For years I had intuitions in many ways and I had always follow them. Like leaving a place, meeting people, canceling trips, you named. I have always told my husband that this always had save me from been in a wrong place at the wrong time.

I usually make decisions in a very logical, though out manner. But every once in a while I’ll just “go with my gut”. I know this is my intuition speaking. I can’t put my finger on it – I just “feel” it. Thanks for the post!

When it’s shouting loudly enough, we have to listen 🙂
