A lot of us witches, especially here up North, go into some degree of hibernation during winter. I know I definitely do, but I’m going to try not to this year.
It’s not easy when you have 5 months straight of cold weather and snow limiting your movement. Sitting outside for an hour or so, for example, is pretty much out of the question. The cold isn’t really doing my joints any favors either.
So I wanted to ask you, my reader, for suggestion for things that can be done during these cold months. Not only for myself, but also for all the other witches having some kind of weather problem during winter.
What’s your suggestion?
PS. The pictures were taken this morning, as I walked home from dropping Lilith of at daycare.

I’m not even in a Northern country, but I definitely do the hibernation thing as well. I also think it’s a natural thing, part of the cyclical character of the seasons. Like you say, it’s just not practical to do a lot of witchy work outdoors when it’s cold and nature is asleep anyway.
Winter has traditionally been a time for house cleaning, crafting, cooking and baking, and all things family, and I think there’s a lot to say for that 🙂
I also think it’s natural, but I don’t like that it totally stops. I want some kind of spiritual activity during the winter months as well. Otherwise it gets hard to get going when spring comes around.
House cleening, yikes. No thanks 😀 I will be baking and crafting with Lilith in December, as a way to prepare for Yule. But I don’t have any winter centered stuff besides the Mid Winter celebration.
Well you could say that the moon grows in importance during the dark months, mainly because the moon is most visible at night! So maybe an increased honouring of the moon phases would be in order? These kinds of meditations or rites can easily be done inside – just find a window you can see the moon from 😀
Stuff like that keeps me going over the winter months!
Good idea, I’m definitely putting that on my list
