In this episode, I’ll talk about creating freedom and happiness in your business. Any and all links are in the show notes, so let’s get going.

A small caution might be in order. If you’re sensitive to language, I must warn you that the occasional swear word might slip through the cracks when I edit. That might happen if I’m talking about something I’m particularly passionate about.

23 - Create freedom and happiness in your business

Show Notes

I want to tell you a short story about a woman I talked to (let’s call her Anna, for anonymity’s sake). Anna is a woman in her early 40’s and when I talked to her, we found that she has a lot of things in her life to be happy about (and she is). A lot of things are just as she wants them to be. She loves her house, the people around her, her clients, and her business. But the conditions she’s working under aren’t giving her the head space to be creative for anything else than business.

All her productivity goes into articles, blog posts, videos and everything else she has to do for marketing purposes, plus the creations she needs to do for her family and home. Meetings and other demands on her energy and time had turned life into a rather boring routine.

She really wants to get back to her creative hobbies, and we took some time to talk about why she hadn’t done so. Most of her problem was that she thought she didn’t have time to create for the joy of it. When she went on vacation, she started creating again, but it stopped once she got back home. She said that shes mostly trying to catch up on the things that need doing.

When I asked her how it felt to write, just for writing’s sake, she said that “It’s always fun to make up worlds” and “creating is fun”. She’s so right about that.

I showed her, by getting her to do it, that it’s possible to write a poem in one minute, it. This got her mind going on coming up with ways she can be creative within the parameters of her life. She decided to get some writing done before starting her business tasks in the morning, and then do some art in the evening, before bed.

She actually said, “I might even write a book this way”.

By the time we ended our conversation, she had decided to pick up her writing, by writing something (non-work-related) every day, and bring some art supplies with her on the trip she was taking the next week.

Anna reached out for help by taking me up on an offer of a guidance session. If you’re in a similar situation, reach out to me. I don’t want you to be stressed out, unsatisfied, to sit half-baked in your creativity, and not live it out fully.

Self-Expression is one of our primary needs. Don’t sacrifice it by stuffing more things into your day than necessary.

Today’s inspirational words are by Danielle LaPorte, it’s one of her truthbombs, and she says “Get your needs met”

Today’s Creative Prompt is to stop what you’re doing right now, grap a pen and a scrap of paper and make a doodle on it.
