Every April 30 I celebrate Spring arriving. For me, there’s no point in greeting Spring in March, because that’s winter up here. So I choose to celebrate on the last of April instead. It’s also a family tradition to celebrate Valborgsmässoafton, as we Swedes call it. This year I joined my blot group and people from the Viking group in a May Pole celebration in Trondheim. Here are some pictures from that celebration:
Thank you for showing us how you celebrated May Day. I won’t be doing anything out of the ordinary. However, the sun’s shining here in England and tulips are blooming under my window. Summer’s coming.
Sounds like a good day 🙂
Here in the US we had a maypole when I was a kid (1940s). We would dance around it, braiding our streamers as we danced in and out. Thanks for reminding me of a happy, carefree time.
That’s what we did last night, while getting whacked on the butt by a kid with abirch branches. He was a bit too enthusiastic 😀
What a fun celebration. Here in Canada I can identify with not celebrating spring in March. We had snow as recently as last week. But it’s beautiful summery weather out there today. 🙂
We have roughly the same climate in Scandinavia as in Canada. 3 weeks ago, we had 50 cm of snow. Most of that’s gone now.
Hi! This sounds like a fascinating celebration! Thanks for sharing it too! Sounds like a fun time!
It was 🙂 They’re a fantastic group of people
