It’s really hard to find good web hosts, unless you dig through the reviews. I want to spare you from having to do that. So I created this overview of hosts I know are good. Either from personal experience, from the experience of my clients, or from checking multiple reviews.
The reason why I’ve segmented these into US and outside Europe, the EU, and then Norway, is because there is some equipment between Europe and the US and between Norway and the EU which makes websites a lot slower than they should be.
Global Web Hosts
Siteground
If you’re in the US or Europe, or if most of your traffic is from those areas, I would say that Siteground is your best bet if you don’t want to pay a lot for your hosting but you still want a good host with good support.
Several of my clients have switched to Siteground and are a lot happier there than they were with their previous host.

A2 Hosting
A2 Hosting has good reviews and they have global data centres so should work well no matter where you are.
Hosts in Europe
Ionos
According to reviews and their website, they have data centres in 5 countries and get a lot higher rating than, for example, GoDaddy.
Abelohost
This hosting company is very focused on hosting your data in a different country than your own, for safety.
WHUK
Web Hosting UK seems to get really good reviews from their users and it’s been around since 2001.
Norway
If you’re in Norway, or your visitors are, I would recommend Domeneshop.
Domeneshop has been around for quite a while and have reasonable prices while still providing what you need, and their servers are in Norway (big plus). You can also get things like domain names with them. I’ve had my domain name with them since 2003.
Avoid these!
They cram too many websites onto outdated hardware, which leads to a lot of downtime, and the support is really bad when you have to call them because of it.
I know this one from personal experience. For a list of hosting companies owned by EIG, click here https://www.onlinetoolsexpert.com/full-list-of-eig-web-hosting-companies/
Update: Hostgator has been acquired by EIG so it’s been added to the list. Thanks to Katie Holmes for notifying me of that fact. If you want to check out her post, it’s here https://outwittrade.com/hostgator-review-2020-not-recommended
