My favourite Tarot deck at the moment is the Vikings Tarot by Manfredi Toraldo & Sergio Tisselli. The imagery of this deck is from Norse mythology. After looking for a good deck for a very long time, I found this one on eBay and bought it. I connect a lot better to this one than my Rider-Waite, so the results are a lot better. I also have a Toth deck, and it’s better for me than the Rider-Waite, but not as good as the Vikings deck. I do have one major objection, though; They made Baldr look like Jesus, with the wounds on the hands and brown hair. He was described differently in the sagas and myths, and never had stigmata.
What’s your favorite Tarot deck, and how did you find it?
What’s good about it? What makes you connect to it?
I am not at all into Tarot, but I have read blog posts from various challenges I’ve been in from time to time, and this question intrigued me. A quick Internet search revealed a wonderful world, with literally hundreds of different decks. Maybe thousands? I quickly found a deck that called out to me from its imagery – again, with no knowledge or training in Tarot. It was something called Healing Earth Tarot and there was one card in particular, called the Grandmother of Feathers. Of course this deck is out of print, which figures, because out of print items seem to attract me. I have no idea why.
That’s probably the best reason to choose one. You don’t need to know why. You only need the attraction, and that the pictures tell you something.
Look at Half.com and other used book sites and on eBay. You might be able to find it.
I’ll go look 🙂
I have a few favorites for different uses. My favorite deck for reading for others is The Revelations Tarot by Zach Wong. The imagery is extremely good and helps me read with better clarity. I can feel these cards.
My favorite deck for reading for myself is the Medicine Woman Tarot deck by Carol Bridges. I love the depth of meaning for the cards with that deck, and in my self-readings I seek more spiritual answers than most of my clients do. I bought both decks in the same store that was owned by friends of mine.
My other favorite for self-reading is The Well Worn Path by Raven Grimassi. It’s especially useful when I have choices to make or need a yes/no answer. I ordered that one online.
However, the strongest deck I’ve ever used is the Quest Deck. I bought that in a Barnes & Noble when I was doing sales on the road and had time in-between appointments and stumbled across one as a place to spend some time. I went in searching for a particular book on crystals, but was drawn over into the “occult” section. It was sticking out a little from the rest of the books and decks on the shelf and caught my eye, then burned my hand when I tried to put it back. I carried it around with me, found the crystal book I wanted, and tried again to put it back only to have it burn my hand again, so it came home with me that day.
I have to say that my least favorite deck is the Rider-Waite. It was my first deck, over 20 years ago, and it disappeared many years ago too. I never really did get into reading while I had it, the first deck I enjoyed reading with was Tarot of the Spirit by Pamela Eakins, which I recently gifted to someone who is really loving it and taking off with reading using it.
Thanks for posting it here as well Diane 🙂
OMG, I have several decks and cannot remember what they are because since being married, I haven’t pulled them out of storage.
The partner doesn’t care for my alter being set up, so I no longer have it available to me.
Everything magical is sitting in blue tubs of storage boxes.
How sad is that!?
P.S. Your comment luv isn’t working Linda! 🙂
Time to be defiant then 🙂
Thanks for the heads-up on commentluv. I’ll have to reset the settings again.
The Celtic Tarot. It was given to me by an ex who didn’t believe in any of this. We broke up a month later. My skills improved greatly from this deck and I think the universe just wanted me to have this deck.
It seems like you found your perfect deck 🙂
Hey Linda,
My fave is the trusty old Rider Waite – but when I am feeling slightly more adventurous I turn to the Druidcraft which is an awesome deck (very large though). I have a few on the wishlist though – the Robin Wood Tarot being a predominant one.
Taria
I have pretty small hands, so I’ve never felt comfortable with a large deck. I’ve been trying to avoid making a wishlist to keep me from getting more 😀
My favorite deck is the Universal Waite Tarot Deck, but I’m starting to grow fond of the Victorian Fairy deck because I love the art on it…it’s my type of style, sheer fantasy! I don’t have the Victorian Fairy deck though, I may soon purchase one. 🙂
I haven’t seen that one yet. Might have to check it out 🙂
