This abstract vortex, which could be seen as a whirlpool, storm, tornado, or maelstrom, was inspired by something a woman said in a business group on facebook. She said: “I have way too much going on”, so I decided to create a piece of art that can serve as a reminder for the owner to not get sucked into the “shoulds”.
Too many (women especially) sacrifice their dreams, their goals, and their self-expression on the altar of should, and the only thanks they get is burnout. Unfortunately, it’s very easy to get sucked into that hole.
It’s well and good to be caring and considerate, but it’s possible to take it too far. To take on too many tasks and responsibilities. I really believe that a lot of people, especially younger women, do this. They sacrifice hobbies, interests, and passions. They change the way they dress, the way they speak, the way they act.
I hope this will help the owner stay out of it. The painting was done in acrylics on MDF. It’s the first in a new series I’m calling WordWorks.
