Vergina Sun

$ 300

Size: 30,3 x 22,6 cm

Materials: Watercolour on watercolour paper

As the forty-fourth symbol, I chose the Vergina Sun, a symbol discovered in Greece in the 70’s with some controversy related to Macedonia. Before the 1970’s, the Vergina Sun was thought to be a simple ornament appearing in ancient Greek art and crafts from 700-300 BCE. After an archaeologist called it an “emblem of the Macedonian dynasty”, scientists and politicians have been arguing about who’s right.
