Sometimes it’s hard to get hold of the art materials you need to make what you want. Either because:

  • the shops aren’t open
  • the shops don’t have what you need
  • you don’t have the cash when you need the stuff

I’ve made a board on Pinterest where I collect instructions and recipes for making your own tools and supplies. You might find what you need there. If you don’t, let me know and I’ll try to find it. (Click the picture to go there.)

What a great idea to make our own art materials. I was imagining an image that would have been great as a woodcut style print, but I don’t have those tools. I was wondering what I could use easily: watermelon rind? a slab of clay?

You could use styrofoam or cardboard. Those are easy to make marks in, all you need is something like a pen or the back of a brush.

This is a great resource, and a great idea for a Pinterest board! And, to Diva Carla, I made a pseudo ‘woodcut’ out of a half potato, I inked it with gold and did a decorative border around my dining room – worked great! I love this stuff, Linda!
