In this episode, I’ll tell you what to do when you have no time for your spirituality, the outcome of one of my tarot readings, marjoram, and I’m going to give you a prompt, something you can do easily and in a short amount of time, to get some magic into your day.

Show Notes
What do you do when you have no time for spirituality?
In these hectic days, it’s hard to set aside time for spirituality. The problem isn’t just that most adults have a day job nowadays, but there
are also other demands on our time, especially if you’re a parent and you buy into the list of things you’re supposed to do.
You’re supposed to:
- work full-time
- keep the house clean
- help your kids with homework
- spend quality time with your kids
- take them to extracurricular activities several times a week
- exercise regularly
- hang out with friends
- have hobbies
- make healthy, varied, homecooked meals every day
- drink water, not caffeine
- get enough sleep
- take care of your appearance
- the list goes on.
With all things we’re supposed to get around to, there’s little or no time left for spirituality unless we decide to take it. If you don’t have
that much time for spirituality, there’ is a solution. It isn’t perfect, but it prevents you from going totally dormant.
Make sure you have a visual reminder of your spirituality where you can see it every day. It doesn’t have to be a full altar setup, something
small is good enough.
Set aside at least 15 minutes a week for your practice. You won’t have time for an elaborate ritual, but it’s enough for a small Esbat, a
meditation, a small magic working, or something like that. Once you get used to setting aside a little bit of time, you will find that you’re
able to expand it.
It also helps to establish a morning and evening ritual. First of all, it helps you wake up on time and go to bed on time. But it’s also
possible to include spiritual elements in that.
But what helps the most is cutting down on that to-do list. Don’t buy into everything you’re supposed to do, and when you’re left with a list
you can live with, some of the things can be simplified or done more efficiently.
- You may have to work for a living, but diskonnect from work when you get home.
- You don’t have to keep the house spotless, it won’t make you or your family any happier if you do.
- Your kids don’t need to go to extracurricular activities several times a week. They’re just as happy playing with friends, and most of all they need to spend time with you.
- To get exercise, you don’t have to go to the gym. You can exercise at home. Nichole Kellerman has great tips on that.
- Hanging out with friends is a good thing, but you don’t have to do it every week.
- Hobbies are great, but you can make them easier to do. I have tips for that on my blog.
- Healthy meals are important, but they don’t have to take forever.
- And makeup is optional.
I must admit I go almost dormant during the winter. Not so much because of the demands on my time, but because my body doesn’t like the weather, and the pain drains me. I do a couple of seasonal celebrations a year, plus a couple of unrelated rituals, but that’s about it as far as ‘traditional’ practice is concerned. The rest of what I do is very practical, like doing readings, making amulets, harvesting herbs and making potions.
I’ve also brought my spirituality into my work, in that I do a grounding before talking to a potential or existing client. I do readings during
creative coaching and many other things. I have taken steps to keep up a spiritual practice despite it all, and I hope this inspires you to do
so as well, and if you need ideas just send me a message.
Loosening the reins
I had a female entrepreneur tell me this for her reading:
My company can become much more than it is. I sense I could have a positive impact on many lives. I’m watching myself hold back, almost like I’m trotting a racehorse that longs to gallop. I’m excited but admittedly scared too. So maybe the subject for the reading is how can I let this racehorse run?
I did a 7 card spread for her and this is what the cards had to say:
You’re getting a lot done now, and people come to you for help. You feel pulled in several directions, and to get out of that you need to
prioritize. Prioritize what is important to you. One way is to take the first two things on the list and putting them up against each other,
disregarding one. Then continue down the list until you’re left with just one. Focus on that one thing for a while, and see what happens. Maybe do some split testing if you can’t decide between two things.
Mixed feelings shouldn’t be ignored. A messenger younger than yourself brings a message or invitation, this is good news, might be something about a journey to water. This is a good opportunity to make new friends. You need to play, to dream, to have a little fun. Stay in touch with the simple and beautiful in life, and remember the simple pleasures.
You have some resistance to doing what it takes. You need to look at things in new ways, from a different angle. You have the knowledge you need to do this. The answer to what’s right is within you. Stand for what you believe in.
Herb of the week: Marjoram
Today’s prompt: Set aside some time for your spirituality every single day, even if it’s only 5 minutes. Find something small to do to remind you of your spiritual side. It could be as simple as some quiet time with a spirituality-related book, grounding yourself, or a cup of herbal tea.
