I love to try new things, so this week I tried my hand at painting in oils. I’ve done one painting in oils, the one you see above. It’s a quick painting of a field labyrinth. Spirals of different kinds have been calling me for a while, so you might see more of those coming later.
I’ve come to the conclusion that oils are not for me. At least not at this point in time. I’m too impatient to keep putting up with rags that could catch fire, solvents that call for ventilation or make me nauseous, poisonous paint, brushes that need special care, and extremely long drying times. This one will take up to a year to dry before I can varnish it. I’m not that happy with the result either, but that’s because I’m not used to how the paint behaves.
I’ll stick to my pencils, acrylics, and the occasional watercolour for now. The next on my list to try is Gouache, but it’ll take some time before I do that. I have a number of crafts to try my hand at too. The photo was taken at 11 PM, which gives you an idea of how much light we have here during summer.
