How has 2017 been treating you? Did you do the fun things you wanted to do or was it mostly work, chores and problem-solving?
Many people I know say that 2017 has been a rough year, although not as bad as 2015. What do you think?
I do hope that you had some fun but in case you didn’t reach the level you wanted, consider making it a priority next year
How to make creative fun a priority
So how do you make it a priority? One way is, of course, to change your mind. To realize that creativity and fun are very important for your health and well-being
Another is to actually plan what you will do and when. Actually adding it to your planner or calendar, and not in pencil. Make it a permanent feature of your weeks.
It doesn’t have to mean shoving important things aside but it may mean that you have to change how seriously you take some tasks. Like cleaning for example. You might be doing more of that than you actually need to. Another example is grocery shopping, maybe you can do that once a week?
What would your ideal day/week look like?
Think about that when you plan your time for next year. Put the important things in first. The things you love and the people you love. The ones that bring you joy and make life great.
So what to do with the less fun stuff?
When you’re left with the rest, the less fun, interesting tasks. The ones that are boring or that you hate. Think about how to get as many of them as possible out of your life.
Some can be dropped and some can be delayed or delegated to others. Either other members of your family or people you pay or exchange services with to do them.
Sure, there will be some left. Some that have to get done, and must be done by you. Then you have to look at why you do them. See the reward at the end of them.
Make it more fun
One way to get through boring stuff faster and with less pain is to make it a bit more fun. Here are some ways to do that:
- Sing or Dance
- Play great music
- Dress up in a fun way
- Turn what you have to do into a game
- Make up stories about what you’re doing
Oh, and if planning your time is one of those boring things to you, make it more fun too. Use different colours, doodle, and put on some music.
If you want some more suggestions for how to make the boring stuff more fun, there are some in this blog post and more in my book “get back to YOU – get back to CREATING“.
What do you want to do more often next year?
