In Northern Sweden, there’s a bug we call ‘sviarn‘. Here’s the explanation for all the Norwegians who don’t believe that there’s something that’s a 3rd of the size of a ‘knott’ (midge), that gets through every kind of mosquito net out there, and that stings like hell when you’re bitten by it:

I’m not sure if they’re a member of Culicoides or Simuliidae. The first ones are smaller, so I think they belong there. They’re too small to compare to a picture in a book. (Edit: They’re Ceratopogonidae – Culicoides sonorensis)
