Do you spend most of your time working, but you wish you had a stronger connection to Nature? Then start celebrating it. Celebrating the seasons and the gifts Nature provides boosts that connection to a degree you can’t even measure.
I celebrate the changing of the seasons as part of my spiritual practice and to connect with Nature. On Monday, I celebrated the Midsummer Eve, the eve of the Summer Solstice. I’ve been celebrating the Midsummer Eve since I was a kid because it’s a tradition in Sweden. These days, I’m keeping it up as a personal tradition outside the yearly celebrations of my spirituality.
The way I do my celebrations may seem simple, but there’s a point to the simplicity.
- First of all, “keep it simple” is something you hear in business advice and elsewhere, but it’s also true for more spiritual things. Why make it more complicated than necessary?
- Secondly, it makes it easier to do when I have other things happening in my life, as I’m sure you do too.
- Thirdly, it’s the way I want to do it, and I have a habit of doing things my way 🙂
The first thing I did on Monday was to take a long walk with my daughter Lilith and my dog Bonzo. Lilith and I picked some flowers for my altar, the kitchen, and for a wreath. Fresh flowers is a must for this time of year for me, and she wanted a wreath 🙂
When we got back, we had lunch and then had strawberries outside for dessert. Very fitting, since it was the full Strawberry Moon as well as the Summer Solstice. Then we spent some time enjoying the weather and making her wreath.
The flowers I used for the wreath are called Midsummer flowers in my Swedish dialect, so they were very fitting too. I think she looks adorable with it on, but then she’s adorable without it too. Yes, I am a proud Mama, if you haven’t noticed that already 🙂
In the evening, I did a small ritual on my own, and then I greeted the sun the following morning. I didn’t do a special artwork this year, as I had other projects I was working on, but I’ve done different artworks and crafts through the years I’ve been doing these celebrations.
My favorite way to celebrate Nature is to do art or crafts using natural materials. I do this all year, but especially around these celebrations. I didn’t do a special artwork or craft this year, besides the wreath, but I’ve done several different artworks and crafts through the years.
I hope this inspires you to start incorporating some seasonal celebrations. If you’re already doing them, or you have some ideas, let me know what you do or plan to do below.
PS. I’ll be taking July off as much as possible, so I’m looking for guests for the blog. Let me know if you’re interested
