I made this video for my facebook page on using your senses to reduce stress, and I thought I’d better share it here too since you might find them useful. All of the tips are really easy, and you’ll find them in writing below the video if you prefer to read.

There are so many reasons you need to reduce your stress, and I’m sure you’re aware of at least some of them. One that you may not have thought of is that when you’re stressed out, you’re not enjoying your life Tweet this! . In my opinion, that’s a big one.

The 5 senses and what you can do with them to reduce stress

Sight: Bring in some flowers or take a walk somewhere green. Green is a very soothing and calming colour. (Tweet)

Sound: Sing or hum your favorite song, or put on some soothing music if you’re not comfortable singing. (Tweet)

Smell: Light a scented candle, smell some aromatherapy or essential oil, or burn some incense. Lavender is a good option. (Tweet)

Touch: Cuddle or pet something furry and alive (a pet or partner, hugs are good too), or take a hot bath or shower. (Tweet)

Taste: Eat some comfort food, have a cup of tea (preferably herbal), or a piece of chocolate. Forget about diet advice. (Tweet)

When you do one of these things, make sure you’re not rushing it, because it won’t help if you do.

If you try one of these stress-busting tips, let me know how it worked for you.

I try to burn incense every day! I have a favorite one that is a lavender and rosemary blend! I LOVE running my hands over rosemary plants and sniffing the heck out of my hands afterwards LOLz One of the few things I miss about living in San Diego — rosemary was EVERYWHERE!!! And for some reason I just cannot get it to grow in my yard here in Spokane 🙁 Crumbling dried rosemary in my hand is a near equivalent though.

I wish I could, but someone doesn’t like the smell of it 🙂 I do use herbs and oils for other things though. Rosemary can be grown here if you’re lucky. I did it last year, but it didn’t survive the winter. I agree, crumbling the dried stuff isn’t the same.
