The card I’m talking about is the Ace of Cups, and the one on the right here is the Ace of Cups from my Arthropoda Tarot deck. The card almost always has an overflowing cup on it, so I made one for my card too. The usual interpretation for the Ace of Cups is:

Party, joy, fulfilment, happiness, love, peace, tranquillity, harmony, confirmation, mercy, new beginnings, new feelings, vivid dreams. It’s a positive sign and indicates a good time to make new friends.

It can indicate the start of a new relationship of some kind. The card often means that love is at the core of the situation. The Ace of Cups is also about creative expression. You may be inspired to start a new creative project. You’re open to new possibilities and opportunities.

The Ace of Cups often indicates fertility. This may mean conception, pregnancy or birth. But it can also be more metaphorical, like the ‘birth’ of a new idea.

Some examples

I’ll give you some examples how I would interpret this card, in relation to a couple of imaginary questions, and you might find a message in there for you.

  • What’s happening this weekend? A party with friends
  • What do I need right now? Peace, tranquillity, harmony
  • What do I need to do for my business? Meet new people, networking
  • How can I make my art more interesting to buyers? Let your emotions shine through
  • When will this change? The opportunity for a new beginning is right around the corner.

A reading I did

A while ago, I did a reading where the Ace of Cups showed up. The reading was about past lives and involved a larger number of cards. The position where the Ace of Cups showed up was about what she did in that past life, or what conditions she was born into.

My interpretation of the card was: She was born into a loving family and had a great start to life with abundance and potential. The profession she had was most likely something creative, either a craft or art.

I interpret it much like you, and of course, always in the context of the reading. It often means some kind of emotional triumph or fulfillment, a “rich time” in life, but not in the sense of material riches. I do love this card 🙂

I know so little about tarot cards and there meaning, but I do find it interesting. Today I think the meaning I would take away would be ‘new beginnings’. We have just sold our house of 27 yrs….and tho I loved that house and all its memories, I also feel a renewed since of freedom.

I feel like this is about birthing a new idea for me. It’s certainly got me thinking about a lot of things going on in my life right now. All good, of course 🙂
