I’ve said I was going to start a series of local landscape paintings in acrylics, but this first landscape painting showed me that I was going about it in the wrong way. Doing them in acrylics won’t bring the results I want for this series. Even though an acrylic landscape may be beautiful, I want a looser and more abstract style for this particular series.

When painting landscapes in acrylics it gets way too easy for me to get caught up in the details, and I don’t want this series to be those kinds of fiddly paintings where everything has to be just right. I refuse to listen to the perfectionist in my head instead I’m going to show her by using watercolour (or maybe gouache) where I can’t correct as much even if she wants me to.

I stopped before I went too far with this one and I like the way it looks now. I hope you like it too. If you do, please share it.

Good on you for listening to your intuition! This is beautiful and evocative, I’m looking forward to the rest of the series 🙂
